The Better Business Bureau and its partner, Shred It, invite the public to Secure Your ID Day, Saturday, June 2, 2012, at the Covelli Centre. Businesses and consumers are encouraged to attend the event and take a key step in identity protection by shredding and properly disposing of their sensitive paper documents. BBB staff will also be on-site to provide expert advice and tips for identity theft protection.
"Identity theft can happen through a variety of different ways, but shredding paper with sensitive information is the easiest way to protect yourself," said Patricia Rose, BBB President.
The number of identity fraud cases has increased 13 percent since 2011, according to a report from Javelin Strategy and Research. The Federal Trade Commission also reported Ohio had over 7,000 identity fraud cases in 2011.
